I'm gonna write more later but there's one thing I'd like to say right away: love the refrain-ish narration.

Achtung, black humour: O, they’ve got some new facilities in the schoolyard.

An (East European?) observation: The building is severely damaged but the pot plants have been carefully protected and survived safely. Good for them. I feel like home. It reminds me of a scene from a Sapkowski’s book. Samson Miodek comes out of a burning town, burnt himself here and there, with a kitten in his arms, and says: “Yesterday I was thinking of saving the world. This morning of saving the humanity. But, well, one has to know one’s limitations. And save what can be saved.”

Great scene. Well placed here, I'll venture to write.
